Representing Reality

Recently we have started a project called 'Representing Reality', we have to create either a moving or still documentary which tells a story of a particular subject we have chosen whether it's personal or factual. I would consider myself more of a still photographer which is why I have chosen to do a still/photographic documentary, I had previously been to Longleat's Festival of Light on the weekend and took over a hundred pictures of the various light features I saw and I thought it would be a good topic to base my documentary on.

After a bit of thought I decided that this subject as I wouldn't be able to make it personal and tell the story effectively, this is when I came across an artist who had done something really personal and turned it into an almost expository documentary about his memories of his Grandmothers house as he remembered it from his childhood. This automatically made me think about all of the different ways I could do a similar idea and make it personal to me.

As a child I remember going to my Grandmothers house often and playing in her large garden, discovering all the different corners and small details that I still remember to this day. Possibly on the weekend I will go up there and just snap away with my camera capturing all the small things I remember as a child, I think this will also help give me  variety of images and, in a way, visual memories to choose from and put together to create a story/documentary which is personal to me.
